How it works
- AES-256 is the modern standard (PDF 2.0 / ISO 32000-2). AES-128 and RC4-128 are offered for very old viewers only.
- The open password is required to view the file. The owner password protects the permission flags; if you leave it empty the open password is used.
- Permissions are enforced by the reader, not by cryptography: most desktop readers honour them, some third-party viewers ignore them.
- Encryption happens on your device. If you lose the password, the file cannot be recovered — keep a copy of the original.
